Specific appliance Pre-Installations checks for customers

Hob Pre-installation checks

Please check the dimensions of your chosen hob. If you need a slightly larger space and your worktops are made of wood or laminate, we can adjust the hole for you. You’ll find all the information you need in the products instructions/ documents; these can normally be found on the manufacturers or retailers’ website.

You will also need to check that the clearance between the hob and any cooker hood or kitchen unit above/ next to it, is within the manufacturer’s instructions/ guidelines. A gas hob will usually need more clearance, and each hob can be different. A diagram is normally provided by the manufacturer in the product's instructions/ documents; once again these can normally be found on the manufacturers or retailers’ website.

The area between the hob and hood is known as the ‘hot zone’, and this must be clear of any of the following.

  • Wallpaper

  • Plug Sockets

  • Window sills

  • Blinds

  • Curtains

  • This list is not exhaustive.

Some hobs are not designed to be fitted above appliances, so you’ll need to double-check this on your chosen model. Where appropriate you’ll find ventilation gap diagrams in the products instructions/ documents; again, these can normally be found on the manufacturers or retailers’ website.

What to do if your intended location is unsuitable

If you have a stone or granite worktop, GNGas are unable to adjust the size and an alternative hob appliance with different measurements may be more suitable instead.

If the clearance height is not suitable, the height of the cooker hood or kitchen unit above will need to be adjusted, this also applies if any side clearances are not suitable. A suitable tradesperson may be required, GNGas will not alter cooker hoods or kitchen units.

Anything found to be in the ‘hot zone’ must be removed before any installation can go ahead. Depending on the complexity, you may need to book a suitable tradesperson or electrician to carry out the work, GNGas do not offer this service.

If the appliance, usually a laundry appliance, is not suitable to be placed under a hob its location will need to be changed, or you will need to find a more suitable location for the hob.

GNGas will not install a hob that does not conform to the appliances manufacturer’s instructions.

Cooker Pre-installation checks

Please check the dimensions of your chosen cooker. You’ll find all the information you need in the products instructions/ documents; these can normally be found on the manufacturers or retailers’ website.

You will also need to check that the clearance between the cooker and any cooker hood or kitchen unit above/ next to it, is within the manufacturer’s instructions/ guidelines. Each cooker can be different, a diagram is normally provided by the manufacturer in the product's instructions/ documents; once again these can normally be found on the manufacturers or retailers’ website.

The areas between the cooker top and hood, along with behind the cooker are known as a ‘hot zone’, and this must be clear of any of the following.

  • Wallpaper

  • Plug Sockets

  • Window sills

  • Blinds

  • Curtains

  • This list is not exhaustive.

Your chosen cookers gas pipe entry may be different to your old appliance, so you’ll need to double-check this on your chosen model. Where appropriate you’ll find the 'hot zone' diagrams in the products instructions/ documents; again, these can normally be found on the manufacturers or retailers’ website.

What to do if your intended location is unsuitable

GNGas are unable to adjust the size and an alternative appliance with different measurements may be more suitable instead.

If the clearances are not suitable, the height of the cooker hood or kitchen unit above will need to be adjusted, this also applies if any side clearances are not suitable.

If the gas supply point is within the 'hot zone' then please inform GNGas who are required to alter the supplying gas pipe to meet the new requirements. GNGas will also supply (at an additional charge) a suitable flexible gas hose that meets the requirements of your chosen cooker, if not purchased with the cooker.

GNGas will not install a cooker that does not conform to the appliances manufacturer’s instructions
